Houston Area Stonewall Democrats

In November 2007, the entire Board of HASD participated in the Presidential Leadership Conference hosted by National Stonewall Democrats, the Young Democrats of America, and the Democratic National Committee. Dignitaries include President Bill Clinton, Elizabeth Edwards, Governor Michael Dukasis, and several members of the U.S. Congress. In addition to workshops,time was allocated to visit with each of the Democratic campaigns and help prepare for the New Hampshire Primary.

We had a blast! Our Winter Party at the Rice Hotel was a huge success. Thanks to all the public officials and Democratic candidates who attended. We also appreciate Jackie Donovan & Jennifer Berger for hosting the event, and Donna Hawkins & Elizabeth McLane for catering it. Co-hosted by the Houston Stonewall Young Democrats.

Whew! It takes a lot of time to screen the entire Harris County Democratic Primary ballot, but our Endorsement Committee did! Then, on February 8, our membership proudly endorsed more than 50 candidates for the March 4 Primary. The Endorsement Meeting was SRO (standing room only). More than 100 people participated in our Presidential Summit & Debate Watch Party. The National GLBT Advisor from each presidential campaign provided briefings and Q&A session. Just one week before our Primary, and all the focus was on Texas! Thanks to Donna Hawkins for the photos.

What a weekend! We held back-to-back Clinton Endorsement Celebrations with more than 200 people in attendance. At Guava Lamp, our special guests were San Francisco's Mayor Gavin Newsom and QAF's Robert Gant. At Chances, Robert Gant made an encore appearance with Dolores Huerta -- a Civil Rights icon.
