Action Groups
We are all about winning elections and literally making America a better place for us all to live. That does not happen by sitting in meetings. Yes, we will have meetings. Each one, however, will a working meeting to help elect our endorsed candidates.
Join an Action Group! You'll make new friends who are willing to work for their values, too.
Campaigns & Elections -- Do you enjoy being in the middle of it all? You'll work closely with our targeted races and the local Democratic parties. Help mobilize our members for voter registration drives, block walking, phone banking, and yard sign delivery. You'll be our primary liaison to the campaigns.
Fundraising -- Do you like planning events? Then, help raise funds for our targeted candidates through HASD PAC. Arrange fundraising events, personal solicitation, and direct mail programs. Our next event will be the Founders Party coming up in April or May. Please consider joining the team to help organize this event.
Legislative Affairs -- After the election, this will be a most important committee. Go ahead and sign up today, but join us first in helping elect Sherrie Matula and Ginny McDavid to the Texas House of Representatives.
Membership -- Have you never met a stranger? Then, help us grow HASD. In a region with more than 5 million residents, it does not make sense for us to have just over 100 members. Help us reach out to hundreds more. As the largest city in Texas, we should be the largest Stonewall. No, not just because size matters. We have lots of work to do, and we simply need lots of people to help!
Programs -- Do you enjoy finding the perfect speaker or creating a dynamic meeting? Even though we have "working meetings", we still need good speakers! In Houston, we have a plethora of outstanding individuals willing to share their expertise with us. Help us find the most interesting ones!
Publicity -- Are you great at grabbing people's attention? Use your creativity and organizational skills to "spread the word" about HASD. Between now and Election Day, we'll have plenty of events to publicize. HASD also needs photographers and a newsletter editor.
Social Events -- Are you the life of the party? Help arrange a variety of social activities. Come up with exciting, not-to-be missed events. Gotta have fun!
Screening Committee -- As another year of elections lies before us, its important that we organize a group of members dedicated to screening the numerous candidates in the upcoming Mayoral and Municipal races. If you enjoy helping elect candidates that hold our mission as a priority in their campain, if you enjoy interacting with the candidates face to face and asking the questions you know the membership wants to have answered, then this is the group for you. Please consider joining our Screening Committee and help shape the future of Houston for not only the GLBT citizens, but all citizens of Houston.
